Preschool Art + {Lucy Darling}

*This is a sponsored post by Lucy Darling. All opinions are my own.

There we were. The week of Spring Break in the midwest and what did we have to show for it? Giant mounds of snow and children off their daily schedules. Every kid friendly place was completely overcrowded, as parents were trying to find things to do!

Luckily, I had a plan. I stopped by Hobby Lobby the week before, picking up a series of art supplies for the occasion. In the midst of all my glorious planning, I had one of those awesome mommy moments! Come on ladies, you the ones?! In this case, I forgotten to pick up washable paints. Oh well, (said no mother ever), acrylic it is!

Materials

  • Painters tape (I used electrical tape because it’s what we had on hand.)
  • Foam brushes
  • Washable paints (If you remember)
  • Canvases
  • Stickers (To add a design. They didn’t attach to the canvases well.)

We forged ahead! Creating both a beautiful mess and timeless masterpieces that will forever hold the beauty and vibrance of the day. But, these pieces weren’t created simply to past the time. They were created with a purpose in mind. In fact, I have been saving all her preschool masterpieces for this occasion!

Decorating

I have always felt the best home decor are pieces that both inspired and brightened our day. What could be more inspiring than our children’s art work!? With that in mind, I set out to find the perfect pieces to do just that.

Last Fall, as I was picking my daughter up from preschool, she handed me two beautiful pieces of her art work. It was these brightly painted pieces that I knew just had to be displayed. So, I was beyond thrilled when I found a print by Lucy Darling! Lucy Darling’s vibrant girly print was perfect to compliment my preschoolers creations.

When I learned I would have the opportunity to work with Lucy Darling to review one of their beautiful prints, I practically jumped at the chance. It was their that I found the inspiration needed to begin decorating the girls playroom.

When it came to selecting a print, I wanted something that was both vibrant and relevant to our family. After combing through dozens of options, I finally settled on their 11×14 Honeycomb Love (Girl) Art Print. Why, you ask? Well, this particular girly print is donned with the phrase, “You Are Loved.” This sweet and simple phrase is written in every children’s book by Nancy Tillman. Who is a favorite of mine! In addition, I tell my babies daily, “You are loved and I love you!”

Haily Meyers is a graphic design artist and the mastermind behind Lucy Darling. Her inspiration began when she was expecting her first child. She created baby sticker sets to express her happiness during this new chapter of her life! After sharing her designs with those closest to her and receiving an outstanding response, she decided to open an Etsy Shop. Haily build her business from the ground up and it has grown from there! She designs quality products in the USA, with both mothers and baby’s in mind! Her prints are made from recycled materials with eco-friendly, soy based inks.

I would love to hear how you store your preschoolers art work? How did you decide to decorate your home? Is it pure style? Or family driven?

**I purchased the frame for my print from Target. I purchased the frames for the art work from Hobby Lobby.

Christmas To-Do List : {Making Memories}

Our Christmas to do list usually starts before Thanksgiving. Gasp! Yes, we usually try to see Santa before Thanksgiving. My previous post shares are reasons behind visiting him before Thanksgiving.

The rest of our holiday activities usually kick off the first weekend in December, with a trip to Disney on Ice. My girl loves it! Her favorite Disney princess is Snow White! It may have something to do with the fact that, it was her birthday theme this past year. Nevertheless, it made this year the best Disney on Ice ever, because Snow White and the seven dwarves  made an appearance! Or as my daughter likes to call them – the 7 D’s!  She attended the show all decked out in her Snow White attire!

The rest of our weekends are usually spent doing different holiday activities – everything from pancake and pajama breakfast, to seeing Christmas plays, cookie decorating, and going to all the small town Christmas events.

My Pinterest searches are usually brimming with holiday cheer starting in July. I am always on the lookout for fresh new ideas and activities. There are always things I’d like to add, but of course that would mean doing away with a few others. Anyone else have that problem? You see so many cute suggestions or ideas, that it becomes hard to narrow down your holiday list?

One holiday activity I would love to add would be taking the girls on the Polar Express train ride. I think they would love it! Or even the possibility of attending the Polar Express pajama party at our theater. Of course that would mean giving up Disney on Ice. Decisions, decisions…

Another suggestion that came in this year from a fellow mama, was visiting Santa at the Macy’s in Chicago. She made it sound like it was the most magical experience ever – so of course it’s on my wish list for upcoming years. Anyone ever taken your child there? We’ve never been. It would definitely be a little bit of a journey with two little ones. But it just sounds like a truly wonderful experience.

One of our regular traditions is to go back to my husband’s hometown and attend their Christmas festivities. Unfortunately with the weather being unpredictable, it meant we were unable to attend this year.  We were all a little bummed… Luckily with my list of ideas we were able to do a few activities in place of our travel plans.

We had a Polar Express movie night. Complete with cookie making and hot chocolate!  I didn’t want to make it too complicated. So we just used the premade sheets of cookie dough and the packets of hot chocolate mix. We had the best time! ! I hope to make this a yearly tradition!

Our second activity (making a Gingerbread House) was fun, but won’t be winning us any awards! The house completely fell apart before it was even half way decorated, but my girl had a blast! Especially eating all the decorations. My friend Kelly, said we need to purchase the pre-made houses! Thanks Kelly! I will definitely do that next year!

What are some of your favorite Christmas activities? Do you find it hard to pick and choose which ones to do each year?
