In Twenty Minutes Everything Will Be Ok

A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend about our morning routine. Well… I wouldn’t call it a morning routine, so much as a chaotic mess. Anyway, I was discussing with her one specific morning where both my children were visibly unhappy with everything. I couldn’t do anything right and I am surprised we even made it out the door at all.

Shortly after I finished my overly dramatic story, another mother chimed in with her own chaotic tale. Because of course, what is motherhood without at least a few of those. Her story began where all great motherhood stories do, with poop! The short version of events goes something like this.

“Child A poops in the tub. Child B sees said poop and proceeds to throw up on the floor. All while Child C is crying somewhere in the background.”

In that moment, she calls a fellow mommy friend who gave her some of the best advice.

Step back,

                     take a breath,

in twenty minutes everything will be OK.

And it was.

In twenty minutes, she had cleaned up both the poop and the puke. The baby was no longer crying. Everything was OK. In a child’s mind the gears shift rapidly. What rocks their world one minute is no longer important the next.

Yet, as adults, sometimes those moments tend to linger throughout our day. Well, for me anyway. Sometimes shaking off the craziness of the morning rush isn’t so easy. I ponder about the recent events, wondering how I could have done it differently. Maybe if I hadn’t raised my voice? Gotten my toddler up sooner? Allowed her to have that peanut butter sandwich she requested for breakfast? Just left the baby in her sleeper without feeling the need to dress her?

The list go on and on…

Most of the time, I am probably too hard on myself. I mean, aren’t we all at one time or another? Motherhood is that crazy, beautiful mix of fun and messy. But sometimes its those messy parts that trip us up a bit. When our children have moved on to the lighthearted fun, we are still stuck in the mess, wondering “how to do it better.”

Parenting is hard, y’all! But that’s just it. Sometimes we get so caught up in the messy, that we miss all the beautiful fun. I don’ know about you, but I hate to miss those moments! So the next next we have a messy moment, I am going to-

Step Back, Take a Breath, because in Twenty Minutes Everything Will Be OK!

Tell me about your recent messy parenting moment? Were you able to move on quickly or did you spend time pondering the recent events of the day?

3 Must Have Items For Surviving Those Baby Blowouts

I love clothes! Especially for my girls. I can find a cute outfit practically anywhere I go. But keeping those outfits clean can be a challenge, especially when you encounter those baby blowouts!

Luckily, I have 3 must have items for my diaper bag to help keep those outfits in excellent condition for future baby’s.

3 Must Have Items

  1. Extra Outfit

Aside from the basics (diapers and wipes), extra outfits are an essential part of the diaper bag! I typically have an outfit and two sleepers in a range of sizes, because they grow so fast. So once you have your sweet babe all cleaned up and in a fresh outfit, you can begin step #2!

2.  Soap

There are several stain removing products on the market. While I am sure some of them work wonders, I prefer to keep it low-cost and simple. This is why I use a $1-$2 bottle of clear hand soap from my local grocery store.

*(I have used hand soap with a purple tint before. While it did remove the initial stain, I do feel it left a purplish hugh in it’s place.)

*EXCEPTION – If you don’t have any soap in your diaper bag, use whatever hand soap is in the public restroom. It’s better than no soap at all.

Just run the now greenish outfit under cold water. Next, apply a few quarter sized helpings of soap to the stains and scrub for a minute or to. Finally running the outfit under cold water again.

3.  Plastic Bag

I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten to put a few plastic bags in the diaper bag! Ugh! Nothing makes a blowout worse then having no place to put that dirty outfit.

The day I originally planned to write this post, I had just pulled into the Panera parking lot, when I realized my babe had an extreme blowout. I took her to the tiny public restroom and got her cleaned up. Thank heavens I had those spear outfits! Unfortunately, I did not have my hand soap or plastic bags.

So there I was, sweating in a small restroom, using the pink soap from the dispenser, as my babe was smiling blissfully in her car seat. Then I had to carry my baby and her soaked, dirty outfit to the front – sweating all the way mind you! Thankfully, the employees were kind enough to get me a plastic bag! I am very grateful!

*Note to self – Never forget these 3 Must Have Items*

*Side note – I wash all their clothes in cold water, on a delicate cycle.

What are your must have items for keeping those outfits in excellent condition after a blowout? I would love to hear your tips!
